  • Diagram views of existing technology and critical gaps with annotations
  • Prepare and present a report and gather feedback

Deliverables: Technology assets inventory listing enhanced with architecture diagrams with annotations and recommendations of existing technology assets and capabilities as a benchmark to form the basis of the future state

4. Definition of Needs – Compile requirements into a user stories backlog and experience map

  • Create questions categorised by the characteristics of a platform
  • Arrange and book meetings and travel
  • Interviews and workshops with business stakeholders
  • Targeted interviews with digital team members
  • Targeted interviews with technical team members
  • Targeted interviews with executive management
  • Write user stories into a backlog
  • Define to-be primary user journey experience map
  • Review and groom backlog with stakeholders

Deliverables: Central catalogue of requirements and journey map that are person-centric, updatable and consensus-driven to drive solution design and serve as a jump start for the implementation

5. Ideation Co-creation – Develop ideas to bring backlog to life and evaluate with prototypes

  • Workshop for design thinking creative matrix, concept posters, storyboarding
  • Prioritise ideas for prototyping
  • Rough prototyping and mockups co-created
  • Test prototypes and mockups with users and gather results with lean startup experimentation

Deliverables: Product and service ideas as concept posters and prototypes with test results to bring user stories backlog to life with idea prioritisation according to scientific methods and testing to prove business value

6. Solution Model – Convert requirements and info into solution capability design

  • Map requirements and audit analysis to key categories of a capability reference model using a heat map to identify priority functional areas of a platform
  • Design initial solution technology capability architecture
  • Present and gather feedback

Deliverables: Solution capability design view based on traceable requirements, existing technical info and industrystandard reference solution models

7. Technology Selection – Selection by mapping solution model to technology and vendors

  • Preparation of materials including:
  • Overlay of candidate technologies and their components on capability view of solution design
  • Analyse stack against candidate vendor and Open Source options
  • Create a decision tree and criteria for evaluating candidate platforms
  • Evaluate candidates against the decision tree to create a shortlist
  • Create scenarios to demo based on user stories backlog and solution capability design
  • Create a vendor briefing pack and issue to shortlisted candidates with an invitation
  • Arrange and chair briefing workshop with each vendor and selected stakeholders
  • Create scorecard of demo evaluation based on pre-defined criteria and demo scenarios
  • Chair vendor and technology demos with stakeholders and capture evaluation data
  • Run workshop with stakeholders to agree on a consensus scorecard to enable a decision
  • Write up a report
  • Present report and gather feedback

Deliverables: Description of recommended technologies and products enabled by a robust decision-making process that is fit for purpose and traceable

8. Solution Architecture – Create blueprints of full technology solution to drive delivery considerations

  • Design logical and component views of selected technologies and platforms to use along with infrastructure and security views
  • Define the listing of software
  • Define non-functional requirements
  • Present and gather feedback

Deliverables: Comprehensive and feasible solution technology design incorporating all information to date in order to plan implementation and people and processes to follow

9. Solution Planning – Add broader delivery considerations based on blueprints

  • Define indicative staffing model with roles
  • Define indicative schedules and milestones
  • Define risks and assumptions
  • Define client resource requirements
  • Delivery and partner resource requirements
  • Write up a solution plan with all text, diagrams into a report

Deliverables: Multi-faceted catalogue of all non-technical aspects of the solution by understanding it from business, operational and commercial perspectives to fulfil the business case and stakeholder buy-in

10.  Roadmap Planning – Create overarching medium to long term plan of direction

  • Define key stages or waves by theme and desired capability mapped to maturity model over a timeline
  • Define key activities and resources to achieve the capability and outcome goals
  • Define delivery models, considerations

Deliverables: Incremental roll out of solution that delivers value at suitable points which accommodate business maturity model and external influences in a feasible and logical sequence

11. Organisation: People and Process – Define the operating model of people and process to deliver and maintain

  • Define stakeholder map and review information to date
  • Further workshops with internal stakeholders
  • Define a centre of excellence model with an organisational chart, role descriptions, sources for roles
  • Define best practices and process
  • Define measurement metrics and reporting
  • Create a change management plan
  • Define delivery partner selection criteria and requirements
  • Support delivery partner evaluation and selection
  • Prepare report and presentation
